Surfers Rules
1. Passion Rules
The best surfers don't spend lots of time on the beach talking about surfing. They love the water and are out there looking for a wave. They are totally committed to surfing in body, mind, and spirit. Some have bumper stickers that say "passion rules."
2. No Dare, No Flair
Top surfers are constantly pushing their limits, trying new moves and going for bigger waves, longer rides, and more control. This also mean taking risks, constantly challenging yourself and those around you, and improving everyone in the process.
3. Expect to Wipe Out
Surfers know that wipeouts occur about two or three times more often than great rides. The idea is to learn from the wipeouts and realize that if you play it too safe, you won't keep improving.
4. Don't Turn Your Back on the Ocean
The uncertainty and unpredictability of change is exactly the same as that connected with ocean waves. Surfers respect those waves and never take them for granted. Even the world's best surfer can be drowned by a wave or eaten by a shark if he's not paying close attention. Pay attention.
5. Keep Looking at the Horizon
Just because the wave coming next is a big one and can give you a big ride, notice what is coming next. Change might be bringing in a wave that can give you the ride of a lifetime or can send you crashing down into the sand.
6. Move Before It Moves You
To catch a wave, you've got to begin moving before it comes to you. If you wait too long, it will pass you by and leave you in the backwash.
7. Never Surf Alone
Surfers know it's important to have the security of a good backup should an emergency arise. They know that by pooling their knowledge and resources with others, they can get the most from their passion.
