Aug 03-DAY2: |
Guide to meet you in the hotel lobby at 3am and take you back to the airport fly to Iquitos.
Transfer to the port of Iquitos. Boat to the lodge, exploring the Amazon River and Tahuayo River en route.
Welcome evening feast. Evening presentation of traditional music and native dancing.

The lodge is located in the pristine forest. Here you will be able to explore both the flora and fauna of Amazonia and its native peoples. This area is inhabited by several different groups of indigenous peoples which have full time active shamans attending to the communities medicinal and spiritual needs. You will be able to meet these men and women and learn about their practices and beliefs.

Aug 04-DAY3: |
After breakfast hike through Varzea ecology to see manakin lek and pygmy marmoset habitats.
Then ascend into the canopy, where the diversity of species of trees in a lowland tropical rainforest can be most appreciated.
After lunch visit a native village to meet one of the native shamans; how they live in the village; lecture on medicinal plants grown in the garden for use by the shaman..

Aug 05-DAY4: |
Early morning birdwatching along riverbank ecosystems.
Late morning visit to a village elementary school. Discussion of the educational system in the wilderness reaches of Peru.
Afternoon visit to a blackwater lake and swim with freshwater pink dolphins. It was here that author Sy Montgomery wrote her two books about these fascinating mammals

Aug 06-DAY5: |
Morning visit to research area to see work on conservation of monkeys.
Afternoon canoe into flooded forest and gather medicinal plants and herbs. Some will be used in tonight ceremony!

Aug 07-DAY6: |
Boat transfer to Iquitos; fly to Lima, fly to Cusco.
Transfer in, afternoon walking tour Cusco.
Then, coca tea welcoming ceremony led by shaman.

Aug 08- DAY7: |
Morning trip to Sacsaywaman, then continue on to Sacred Valley. At the ruins of Sacsaywaman, we will explore this ancient Inca sanctuary with its immense monolithic walls built from stones that weigh up to 130 tons each, all joined together perfectly. Sacsaywaman witnessed great events and bloodshed during the siege of Cusco at the time of the conquest.

Stop at the Sunday Pisaq Market.This colorful local market will one of the highlights of your trip. Here will will be able to find handmade textiles, local crafts, everyday goods, produce and maybe even an alpaca or two!
Ollantaytambo. The village of Ollantaytambo retains the original street plan of the Inca town, making it the only surviving example of Inca urban planning. Our tour will include a visit to the agricultural areas around the village, the irrigation system, granaries and the fortress-temple built by the Inca Pachacuteq using stonemasons from the Colla culture around Lake Titicaca.

Transfer to train station in Ollantaytambo.
Vistadome train to Machu Picchu; guided tour of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is one of the few Inca settlements not sacked by the Spanish. This remote fortress stood alone in the jungle abandoned for centuries. Now it has been restored and preserved. Your guide will bring history alive today as you walk the streets paved with stone laid over 1,000 years ago!

Morning return to ruins without guide, afternoon return to Cusco.
Possible to climb Wyana Picchu or walk up to the Gate of the Sun on this day. Guide will explain procedures.

Express First Class bus to Lake Titicaca. This is one of the greatest road trips in the world! You travel across the Alto Plano with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world as you watch through your windows. Bus will stop for lunch as well at a small ruins/market to stretch your legs.
Then off to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca.B,L

Aug 12- DAY11: |
Visit to Uros and Taquille Islands.
Evening visit from Shaman. You will be able to compare this areas medicinal plants and practices to other parts of Peru. The Uros dwell on islands made of torta reeds. On these huge reed mats they make their homes of fish and hunt around the lake trading what they catch with the land dwellers in the area. Tequille is a solid island in the lake that is farmed and has its own culture. it is known for its fine needlecraft which is produced by the local men!

Visit to Sillustani funerary ruins.
These ruins pre-date the Inca and are from a little known civilization that existed around the lake before recorded time.

2nd Deposit Due: January 25, 2010 - $700. (this fee is for inner-Peru air travel and has to be paid ahead of time to guarantee the rate quoted. If paid after this date, additional fees may apply.)
3rd Deposit Due: March 22, 2010 - $600
